How did you get into the industry?

I started cutting grass when I was 14 and then found myself working in sales for a spray company when I was 20. While working in the industry, I saw things that could be done differently so I decided to start my own company to make a difference in the industry.

What’s New in the Business or in the Franchise Model?

Our company has an all-inclusive model.  We don’t upsell or cause our customers to incur additional charges.

Where do you See Opportunities or Challenges for the Franchise/Business Moving Forward?

Explosive growth.  We have seen great interest and while that is a great problem to have, there are a lot of details to be covered.

What is your Goal for the Business Moving Forward?

Our goal is to help others become their own boss and have the same opportunities to make a difference in the industry. We plan to have 100 franchise locations in 10 years.

Talk to us About Training and Support, How Do You Deliver?

After signing, we offer detailed training to be able to run the business from top to bottom. From office to field, we train to succeed. Included in the royalty fees is yearly training and continuing education to help keep up to date in the changes of the industry and components that help run the industry.

Your most difficult moment at the Franchise Business?

Knowing who is a fit for our brand. We are a family owned and operated business and we don’t award a franchise to just anyone. We want our brand represented well and we consider our franchisees a part of the family.

How is your Franchise Model Structured?

A. Training and Support Model?  We focus heavily on training and support, we want to make sure that franchisees are able to not only be successful but to feel confident in what they are doing and love their experience with GrassRoots.

B. What is the Fee Structure? $30K franchise fee, 6% royalty, we wanted to create a model that allowed for both the franchisor and franchisee to be successful in business and have the opportunity to realize a strong bottom line, we feel good about where we are and so far our franchisees have been doing great and been very happy.

What does Your Franchisee Do in the Business Every Day?

Franchisees operate a repeatable lawn care service business. We focus on a specific niche in lawn care doing applications and service. It’s high margin, high value work and we don’t get into the parts of lawn care which slow down traditional “mow and go” businesses.

Who is the Ideal Franchise Candidate?

Someone who is passionate about lawn care, but also about customer service.

Success Stories and Failures with Franchisees?

So far, we have had great experiences in franchising and have really loved the franchise business.  It’s allowed us to scale and to offer other people the opportunity to be in business for themselves and succeed using our formula.

What Goals Do you Have for the Franchise Model in the Future?

Be consistent, genuine and focused on creating successful, positive relationships with franchise owners and customers in new markets around the country.
